  Celebrating holidays

  just wondering if you still abstain from celebrating christmas birthdays etc or if you do celebrate them how long did it take to feel comfy with doing it after you'd left the jws?i'm fading at the moment but although me and hubby have talked about spending xmas with our nonjw families and i told him i was going to start sending bday cards to my family, the thought of it scares me like its a big huge sin.does it ever feel natural to celebrate holidays?i used to love all that sort of thing before i was a witness but when my mum and stepdad wished me happy bday last month it felt really odd and i was uneasy.i find it v confusing cos i can sort of see that jesus wasn't born in dec. but maybe he can have 2 bdays like the queen!also not being able to send fathers day cards this year was the final straw for me i felt so bad about it so i have lots of making up to do but just hope i can enjoy it all without feeling bad.

  i know they say some bday things have pagan origins but there are things jws can have or do that also are pagan.wedding rings for example.thanks

  Hi dobbie,

  Just do what feels comfortable for you. Many JW's celebrate holidays to a certain extent. At Thanksgiving and Christmas our family always got together to have a traditional meal with all the trimmings. My JW mother gives birthday presents. This has caused some problems with my sis in law. Her family is not JW and told her parents they can't give the kids bday gifts, but my JW mom does! Go figure.

  While I would LOVE to have a Christmas tree and string lights etc, hubby still doesn't want to. We have some close friends we exchange gifts with and attend Christmas parties.

  The expense can be handled. There are all kinds of homemade gifts you can do - gift baskets etc, and make sure you set a budget!!!

  Things take time, so don't rush into anything before you're ready.

  My JW Neighbours

  i've posted about this before, and my earlier posts will clarify this.. i've explained to my neighbours why i (as an atheist) am bad association for my my jw neighbours.

  i've explained that to them as well, and on my third and last visit to a kh with them (for memorial service?

  ) i wore my fbi polo shirt and afterwards went outside for a cigarette.. pregnant jw mum and the kids (6 and 3) have just left to visit her (jw) family in sweden.

  I say go for it. It sounds like he is reaching out for some help!! Show him a good time, and that non JW's are not the evil people they like to think they are.

  Do JWS have a relationship with God................?

  how many jws have a real relationship with jehovah ?

  i thought i did but looking back it was a relationship with the organization that i had.. i did pray, it always went something like "oh please jehovah make me more appreciative, and stop me being so negative, bored at the meetings and help me to enjoy the fs " .

  i always felt the "third voice " you hear while reading the wt, was jehovah, i know it sounds nuts but i think this is why even though i had doubts, i always pushed them to the back of my mind.

  ..............I watched a programm about the brain and apparently religious feelings come from a certain part of the brain. I really think the need to worship is a chemical imbalance..hah ha

  Well, that explains A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol Should I take the red pill or the blue pill???

  Well Watchtower what is it now? Jesus "imminent return" is still pending? You say 1914 end times "is a core doctrine" well didn't Jesus return in 1914?

  That is what jumped out at me too! Is this "new light" that I missed? I always thought Jesus had returned and was ruling invisibly.

  The whole article is a load of crap, total propaganda!!

  My JW mom thinks I am happy. . . hmmm

  ok, i am talking to my mom tonite at a restraunt overlooking the water, and we are having fun, and i am griping about my husbands silliness (forget which one, there are many) and she says to me" are you happy?

  " and as i am complaining about my husband, i feel kind of silly saying, yes, but i said, yes, i have a lot to look forward to, my kids are great, my (new book) business is going well, and i am really excited about the next few months-my whole future.

  she tells me, you know your sister has more money, and success, her husband worships her(mine has no such idolatry issues!)etc.

  I am soooooo much happier now that I've left JW's. When my mother and I had a big blowup over this, one thing she said is that I've changed. I told her I absolutley had!! I'm finally happy! For the first 36 years of my life I was unhappy. I have a better relationship with my husband, I have REAL friends now etc. My mother is a very negative person, and never saw the good/positive in people and I refused to take part in her conversations about people.

  She is an active JW (just spent 6 hrs the other day compiling letters for service), and is never happy. I can't remember the last time I saw her having a good time somewhere. She has health proplems (most of mine went away when I left).

  If they knew what a burden would be lifted from them if they left the JW religion, the numbers would dwindle really fast.

  Nonexistant!

  That was and is the hardest thing for me after leaving. I had no relationship wiht God, and although I've really tried, I still don't. I've been to churches and seen people really worshiping, but I stand there and can't get into it.

  Being a JW the focus is not on "worship", it's on preaching. That is the sole purpose of the JW religion. Everything else takes second stage.

  when word came down that a smurf jumped up in the middle of a meeting, yelled 'i've had enough of this shit!

  ' and stormed out, i was probably 9 years old.

  Yeah, I remember about the smurfs. There were all kinds of different stories going around about them. At the same time there were certain records you couldn't listen to because they said "satan" etc when you played them backwards. Those little trolls with the wild hair were demonized too.

  Thankfully, my mother didn't listen to those stories. I remember my friends having to throw out all their albums, get rid of toys etc. I didn't have to thow anything away, and could watch the cartoons!!

  Abstaining from Blood-Eating meat etc.

  when we consider the entire blood issue, does any jws consider that everytime we eat any meat at all we are partaking of blood?

  heck, my understanding of nursing is that babies often get a good dose of mothers blood-you would not believe what the lactation consultants say you have to nurse through!!

  so then, after looking at the bible instructions about blood, would not one need to consider the context?

  My ex, who liked her steak rare, patiently explained to me several times that the meat on her plate was not lying in a pool of blood. It was juice. I was merely too stupid to comprehend that.

  Yeah, that's what I was always told too. I thought juice only came from fruits and veggies. Didn't know you could juice a cow (milk yeah, but juice?? lol)

  We heard all kinds of rumours growing up about blood in certain products. I remember I couldn't have an Easy Bake oven because the cake mixes that they came with contained blood products!! For years I thought Red Velvet Cake was full of blood!!!

  British Asians and Pets

  as many are aware there is a large asian 'community' in great britain, indian, pakistani and bangladeshi.

  in my line of work i have been into the homes of many but only today did it occur to me that i have never and i mean never met an asian family with pets.

  am i just not aware or is it something that isn't done, in particular with the muslim 'community'.. thanks.

  I've always noticed that with Asians as well, not just South Asians, but pretty much all of them. When my mom lived in an apartment building and she was taking the dog on the elevator they'd either leave and get the next lift, or wouldn't get on if the dog was there (this is a little ball of fluff).

  I walked downtown one evening to go to the bank machine and an Asian man (Japanese) and his daughter came in. I had my two dogs (medium sized dogs) with me, they were sitting right beside me and I had them on the leash. They both had a terrified look on their faces. I made sure they knew they were leashed, but it didn't matter, they would not do their banking until I left the area, even though there was three other ABM's available.

  I always thought it was because in their home countries they ate dogs, and are now terrified of revenge!! lol

  P.S. As for the chicken thing - that is just something I CANNOT wrap my head around!! A chicken??????????

  dont you hate it when dubs refer to their pets as jw pets and would not give them a blood transfusion?!?!?!

  My dog had to have a transfusion during surgery.

  I had never heard about this before.

  Apparently they have "transfusion" dogs at the University and some shelters (poor things).

  I found out about the transfusion after the surgery was done, I guess I forgot to give the vet my dogs Medical Directive before hand!!
